Jörg Smid has been a lawyer in Hamburg since 1995, a specialist lawyer for information technology law since 2015 and a certified data protection officer TÜV® since 2017. He advises in particular on competition law and trademark law, and has been advising on data protection law for more than 15 years. Attorney Smid began his career as a lawyer in a large international law firm and was a partner in renowned law firms for many years. He has experience in representing in and out of court, in particular, well-known media and telecommunications companies as well as brand companies in matters of intellectual property law, data protection law and telecommunications law.

Smid is the author and co-author of various publications, most recently Spindler/Schuster, Handbuch der elektronischen Medien, 4th ed. 2019. He regularly lectures on data protection law and internet law, for example at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. Jörg Smid was a lecturer in civil procedural law at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt an der Oder until 2018. He was also a seminar instructor at the German Lawyers' Academy and, until 2018, at the Academy of German Magazine Publishers (VDZ).
